Sequencing Science Topics
The National Curriculum in England: science programmes of study has progression across the year groups built into it. However, the order of the topics within each year group is not intended to indicate the sequence in which they are meant to be taught. Consequently, it is important that schools consider the sequence in which topics and their related statements are taught within each year. This document offers some suggestions on how to develop an appropriate sequence for each year group.

ASE PLAN resources
PLAN is a set of resources produced to enable teachers to have a clearer understanding of National Curriculum (England) expectations for meeting the standard in science. Annotated collections of children’s work provide examples of what working at the expected standard for primary science might look like for the knowledge and conceptual understanding statements of the programmes of study (POS).

CREST

CREST is a scheme that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. It is the UK’s only nationally recognised scheme for student-led project work in the STEM subjects. It gives young people aged 5–19 the chance to choose their own subject and methodology when completing their hands-on investigation. It provides activities and project ideas for a range of ages, group size and abilities, from off-the-shelf, one-hour long challenges through to large-scale, student-led projects of over 70 hours work or more.

To help primary schools link the Star and SuperStar challenges to the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum (England) topics, we have mapped them to the topics where they have the strongest link - see below.
